Clinical Arts Therapy
Arts therapy is essentially a form of psychotherapy that uses a variety of creative processes to improve a person’s physical, mental, and emotional well-being in the form of visual art-making, drama, dance and movement.
Arts therapy can promote personal development, enhance cognitive function and increase coping skills. Qualified therapists will construct an arts therapy session to suit your specific needs and help you explore a new way of expressing yourself and how you feel.
ANYONE can benefit from arts therapy. You do not need to have any prior experience or talent. All that is asked is you come with an open mind and trust the process. Registered arts therapists are not art teachers but are qualified therapists with a masters’ degree that includes clinical training.
The initial session is all about getting to know each other. During this session you will be encouraged to express verbally or creatively what you would like to achieve from therapy. It is an opportunity to become part of a trusting, non-judgmental therapeutic relationship.
In a safe and creative environment we work together through talking and art making to find solutions that work for you. Various art materials are always available and whether you have any artistic experience or not, you may be surprised how they can help you discover insights as therapy progresses. Art materials may include: paint, pastels, pens, pencils, collage and clay. Guidance is always available in the use of materials if wanted.
All sessions are confidential.
